The complete redesign of a London apartment to provide fewer, better-proportioned rooms. SPINK was commissioned for both design and build, the late 20th century building offered no notable architectural features, so the design is heavily reliant on high-quality detailing. The many soft curves throughout the apartment are formed in travertine stone, oak, plaster and linens.
Swiss village
A new-build mountain chalet in a Swiss village. The design by SPINK referenced the hierarchy of a listed, local 15th century manor house with its chalk-white rendered 'sockel' (lower floor) and the timber upper floors. Here, floor finishes progress from stone to timber, while the floorboard widths and ceiling beams progressively reduce as the spans and structure change throughout the building. The chalet is entered from the north courtyard and its main south facade captures panoramic views of the mountains.
near Henley-on-Thames
An English country estate near Henley-on-Thames. SPINK designed, managed and curated the build, furnishings and landscape. At its heart was the new-build classical manor house designed in Palladio order with its living accommodation on two floors. Underneath the house sits a private spa and extensive back-of-house service accommodation. The main house was further supplemented by a 'staff village', walled kitchen garden and a discreet tunnel leading to a private Thames river-side dining pavilion and a wet boat house. This project was the culmination of 10 years of work, dealing with the authorities on Grade II listed parkland in the protected greenbelt.
Chilterns countryside
Built in the Chilterns countryside, one hour west of London, this remarkable single-floor villa sits into a natural landscape amphitheatre positioned towards the head of a valley, nestled in rolling hills. The new-build house was designed by David Chipperfield Architects for Mike and Maria Spink, and the project was managed and built by SPINK, who also designed and contoured the landscape, including the establishment of its chalk soil wildflower meadows. This award-wining house was built to exemplary standards with only a few millimetres of tolerance. The property is heated by sustainable district heating via a gasification log boiler, which is fuelled by timber from its own woodland. The house is built with handmade white clay bricks with artisan sponged white lime mortar. The walls are encapsulated between its white concrete structural ceilings and polished terrazzo concrete floors.

Formerly a pair of Grade II Listed houses located on a crescent providing a floorplan with tapered room plans. The 19,000 sq ft house had suffered extensive bomb damage in WW2 and the SPINK work reinstated the missing detailing and mouldings to the grand floors and contemporary design for the all new build of the upper floor and new spa basement under the garden.
