Scale Rule CIC

Scale Rule is a collective of engineers, architects, and designers dedicated to fostering diversity and public engagement within the built environment. They achieve this by encouraging better industry representation and community participation in new projects. Their approach involves engaging people from all backgrounds in the design process, offering professionals insights into the needs of the communities they design for.

Through their projects, Scale Rule members adopt varied roles, transforming from their usual professional capacities into teachers, project managers, general contractors, or joiners. These experiences provide a holistic understanding of the design and construction process that is often unavailable in traditional team structures. They aim to benefit young people interested in the built environment and the communities their interventions interact with, guided by their Community Interest statement.

Scale Rule offers a range of activities including one-day or two-day team workshops for design-build projects aimed at students aged 13-18, one-day kit workshops for ages 11-16, and drop-in experimentation workshops for younger children (4-11). They also participate in community designs, installations, and competitions, and create educational campaigns focused on sustainability, design, and the built environment.
