Dean Moor Solar Farm

Dean Moor Solar Farm is a significant renewable energy project located in Cumbria, aiming to generate 150MW of clean electricity, sufficient to power over 50,000 homes annually. This project is a joint venture between Firma Energy Ltd and ib vogt UK Ltd, operating under the entity FVS Dean Moor Ltd. The development has successfully navigated the Development Consent Order (DCO) process, a rigorous pathway for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs).

The project emphasizes not only energy generation but also substantial environmental and community benefits. Environmental enhancements include cultivating wildflower meadows, improving grasslands, planting native hedgerows and trees, and installing wildlife habitats, aiming for a biodiversity net gain exceeding the government's target. Community benefits are being shaped through active dialogue with local organizations, with commitments to a community funding scheme and on-site improvements like new public paths.

The development process has involved extensive consultation, including non-statutory and statutory phases, to inform the project design and address local feedback. The solar farm is designed as a temporary development, with plans for restoration to agricultural use post-decommissioning, while maintaining low-intensity sheep grazing during its operational life. The project is progressing through planning stages, with development consent granted and subsequent steps involving compulsory acquisition of land.
