West Midlands Fire Service

Active·other·Head office Dudley

About from company website

9 million people across seven local authorities. The region contains some of the most deprived communities in the country, where socio-economic and health factors mean the risk of fire and other emergencies is particularly high, alongside major urban centres and industrial areas with high-risk infrastructure. The service operates a blended fleet of over 70 vehicles, including fire engines, Brigade Response Vehicles, and specialist vehicles like aerial hydraulic platforms, from 38 fire stations strategically located across the West Midlands.

Staffed by over 1,350 firefighters and officers, supported by Fire Control personnel and specialist support staff, the service responds to a growing proportion of non-fire emergencies such as rescues and road traffic collisions. Prevention, protection, and response are the core of WMFS's operations. Prevention activities support safer and healthier communities through evidence-based life course approaches.

Protection ensures life and property are safe by auditing high-risk buildings and businesses, advising on fire safety legislation, and taking enforcement action when necessary. Response involves safely and effectively attending fires and other emergencies at local, national, and international levels. WMFS offers a range of services including fire safety guidance, commercial training in fire safety, first aid, and petroleum safety, as well as youth services like Fire Cadets.

They also manage explosives and petroleum licences, and provide fire engineering expertise for new buildings. Their vision is to make the West Midlands safer, stronger, and healthier, with all activities connected and driven by this goal.
