About from company website

Founded in 1886 by Elizabeth Wordsworth, St Hugh's College began with the mission to provide an Oxford education for women who could not afford the fees of other colleges. Initially housed in a single building, the College has grown significantly over the decades, expanding its campus and facilities. It risked financial ruin during WWI to build a new main building, which has been the heart of the College since 1916.

The College site was requisitioned during WWII to serve as a hospital for head injuries, with brick huts constructed in the grounds. Post-war, these huts were leased to university departments. The College has undergone extensive building programmes, including the Kenyon Building (1965), Wolfson Building (1967), Maplethorpe Building (2000), and the Dickson Poon University of Oxford China Centre Building (2014).

In 1978, the College opened its doors to men, becoming a vibrant, co-educational establishment proud of its radical tradition and inclusive outlook. Today, St Hugh's is known for its beautiful 14-acre campus, Edwardian red-brick buildings, modern student accommodation, and a thriving culture of teaching, research, and intellectual engagement.
