Solartek Films Ltd were asked by Boland Glazing to organise the erection of safe access in order for Solartek to strip the existing old solar film from the external surface of glass. Solartek then arranged for all glazed rooflights to have external grade Silver Solar Film applied. The main drawback was that work could only be carried out at weekends due to the client's policy on working on the roof above. Solartek successfully completed this contract over 10 weekends.

Harrods contacted Solartek expressing their concerns that the glazing above the main rear entrance was unsightly. This was due to having clear glass with shelving behind. Residents opposite had complained about the amount of light that was apparent at night from the shelf lights. The problem was that access was not possible on the inside of the glass. Solartek Films Ltd organised permits from Westminster Council for three consecutive Sunday mornings. This allowed Solartek's preferred access company to supply a suitable boom lift with driver to gain access to the external surface of the glass. Solartek then supplied and fitted blackout vinyl to the glass and sealed the edges with mastic. The unsightly view was hidden and complaints from the residents ceased.

Our full-time site manager dealt with the complex and sensitive issues around working for a large corporation, involving gaining access to many sensitive areas. With the majority of areas requiring the removal of obstructions, the role of our site manager in liaising with the BBC porters proved crucial. This helped to ensure that installation of our safety and manifestation films was carried out efficiently and with minimal disruption. Spanning a two-year period in a challenging environment, Solartek Films completed the work without any adverse comment or criticism.

The Natural History Museum needed to upgrade the glass on their display cabinets to meet current glazing regulations. These regulations came in to force in 1996 and apply to all glazing installed before the implementation of the regulations. Solartek supplied and fitted Solartek 100 Micron Clear Safety film to the inner face of each cabinet, allowing the museum to meet their legal requirements without the cost of replacing the glass itself. This glass will now break safely in the event of incident, protecting both staff and visitors from debris.

Broxbourne, Hertfordshire
Having had their glass inspected and upgraded back in 1999, the Facilities Manager became aware of the importance of monitoring the glazing within the school due to changes in regulations over the years. Solartek were called in to carry out a Workplace [Health, Safety & Welfare] Regulation 14 Glass identification survey. After testing every pane of glass within this glazing law, over 200 sq mts of glass was found to fall foul of the safety standard required. The original safety film that had been applied was old, dilapidated and out of warranty. Solartek upgraded all the glass that needed upgrading over the course of the Easter Break, applying their 100 micron safety film and EN12600 kite mark sticker.
