Soils Limited was founded in Surrey in 1982 by Nick Lambert and Rob Higginson. Starting in Rob's mum's spare room, the company took shape through their blend of geological and civil experience and grew steadily through the 80s and 90s into a fully-fledged Geotechnical and Environmental consultancy. After celebrating our 40th Birthday in 2022, Soils Limited has grown to a 40-strong firm of engineers and scientists working across a diverse range of sectors and projects.
Our founding principle is to recognise the value of long-term relationships and to leverage our deep technical experience to deliver the best possible solutions for our clients. With 44 years of experience and offices across the South of England and Europe, Soils Limited continues to be a market leader in the industry. Our team of qualified Engineers and Scientists are industry leaders in brownfield development, contaminated land and navigating the regulatory process.
Soils Limited has 43 years of experience in site investigation solutions for our clients. Our in-house team of first-rate Drillers, Technicians and Surveyors set us apart from the rest.
Soils Limited provided comprehensive site investigation works, and contaminated land consultancy through the RMS and GGRAs for EQUANS and ahead of an ambitious redevelopment of a mixed-use industrial site on the Grand Union Canal in Hayes. The site was acquired by Greystar, with plans drawn up for a 407 unit build-to-rent scheme. We conducted global stability assessments of the existing canal wall and advised on targeted investigation works.
A really rewarding project to work on, with the Soils Limited team providing a site investigation, geotechnical reporting and contamination assessment for the development of a new learning hub at the Henry Moore Foundation's headquarters in Perry Green, Hertfordshire. DSDHA's architectural design will see the extension of the Sheep Field Barn Gallery, which was built more than 20 years ago on the rural site. It will be a fully timber extension to the already existing steel portal shed structure. The structural engineering work will be carried out by Webb Yates.
Situated on a picturesque stretch of the River Dart in Devon, Noss-on-Dart Marina has undergone an ambitious regeneration plan following its acquisition by Premier Marinas. Early phases comprised a dredging campaign, new berths, land reclamation and the construction of a new sea wall. This was followed by an extensive multi-phase development plan to bring high-quality office and commercial space to the marina. Subsequent phases will see the construction of a boutique hotel and a 44-unit residential building. Soils Limited has been working at the site since 2017, providing a comprehensive range of site investigation, and geotechnical and geo-environmental consultancy.
Working for Essex Highways and Ringway Jacobs, the Harlow project saw Soils Limited undertake a complex multi-stage site investigation using intrusive and geophysical techniques to analyse the ground conditions as well as generating a comprehensive map of buried utilities. Our team completed the work on a tight schedule, working a mix of day and night shifts to deliver on time and on budget, demonstrating our ability to produce first-rate work on the scale required for public infrastructure projects.
North Quay is a special scheme. Truly transformative for the town of Hayle and another major investment in Cornwall. We are proud to have worked alongside WSP and Corinthian on this landmark project, helping them develop a site investigation and understand the ground beneath the site. We're looking forward to engaging on subsequent phases, not to mention another opportunity to soak up the amazing views of the estuary.
The RNLI Penlee Project involved providing ground condition information to the client and its designers, while dealing with a busy shipping port, ahead of the construction of a new lifeboat station. Working with partners Marbas and Symons Construction, Soils Limited provided a foundation scheme for development that was appropriate to the settings present on the RNLI Penlee site. Works were complex due to drilling through a sea wall comprising granite rock and concrete, which was overlying very soft Marine Beach Deposits and a bedrock of the Mylor Slate Formation.
