The complete renovation of a three bedroom house in Cley (structural modifications, two new bathrooms, new kitchen, new flooring, re-wire, re-plumb, new heating system, new windows, new doors, and complete re-decoration). Rob and the team made the process as stress free as possible from the outset. They were very clear on approach, timings, and costs. They made all the right call on when they should consult us on choices, particularly important given that the work was being done at the height of the pandemic when we could not visit the site. Perhaps most importantly, the quality of the work is outstanding.

When the current owners bought this beautiful old farmhouse, it had last been sold in 1762 and was uninhabitable. They wished to preserve the 'time capsule' historic feel, while updating it for modern living. The judges were particularly impressed by the detailing and craftsmanship which went into this restoration, using natural, recycled and locally sourced materials. A great deal of attention has been given to insulation and fireproofing, beneath the fourth-storey roof, between floors and in the walls. All windows are double- or triple-glazed. The reversal of previous poor alterations and the clever reuse of outbuildings really lift the whole scheme.
A nice touch giving community access is that the orchard now links directly with the churchyard. Sustainability using an air-source heat pump, solar panels and a rainwater harvesting tank demonstrates a strong commitment to reducing environmental impact, with these additions well-integrated into the historic setting. Overall this is an intelligent piece of conservation which brings the house into the present while honouring its past.
