Populo Living

Populo Living is Newham Council's wholly owned housing company, dedicated to creating high-quality, energy-efficient, and sustainable homes for private and affordable rent. Founded in 2014 as Red Doors Ventures and relaunched as Populo Living in 2020, the company's prime role is to develop additional homes on Newham Council's public sector land, reinvesting any potential profit into more affordable housing options. The company operates with a 'Renting for Good' model, ensuring that rental income is channelled back to Newham Council to fund the creation of more homes, with a strong emphasis on maximising the number of affordable homes on each site.

Populo Living aims to deliver a triple dividend for Newham: a social dividend of more and more affordable homes, an economic dividend by returning surplus to the local authority, and an environmental dividend through low-carbon neighbourhood development. The Populo Living Group comprises three entities: Populo Living for open market rentals, Populo Homes as a registered social housing provider, and Populo Design & Build overseeing design and construction. The group is committed to Community Wealth Building principles, fostering a fairer and inclusive economy, and prioritises innovation in housing solutions to address Newham's housing challenges.
