PAMIS

PAMIS is the only organisation in Scotland dedicated to supporting individuals with profound learning and multiple disabilities (PMLD) and their families. Celebrating its 32nd anniversary in 2024, PAMIS has grown from a small charity founded in 1992 into a well-established and valued part of the voluntary sector. The organisation's core mission is to ensure that people with PMLD are valued, receive necessary support to participate fully in everyday life, and that their choices and needs are central to all provision and policy.

PAMIS actively recognises and incorporates the knowledge and experience of family carers into its work. To achieve its mission, PAMIS offers a wide range of services including practical help, advice, training, and information. They provide individual support and facilitate connections with other families, assist in gaining better access to community resources, and empower individuals to influence policy and services at both local and national levels.

A key focus is the promotion and development of Changing Places Toilets across Scotland, working with families, local authorities, and organisations to create accessible and inclusive environments. PAMIS also co-founded and chairs the UK Changing Places Toilet Consortium, aiming to increase the number of these essential facilities nationwide. The organisation's initiatives are responsive to the needs of those they support, employing innovative and creative approaches.

Services include a Family Support Service, Learning and Development programs, Leisure access, Pamiloo (accessible toileting facilities), PAMIS Digital Passports for inclusive communication, Postural Care guidance, Research and Consultancy, Self-directed Support options, Storytelling initiatives, and support for Transitions from child to adult services. PAMIS also offers 'PAMIS Breaks' at the Coach House in Aberfeldy, providing accessible holiday accommodation for families.
