Homefolk Housing UK CIC

Homefolk Housing UK CIC is a community-led initiative focused on addressing the climate crisis and housing affordability through the development of affordable tiny home villages. Their model emphasizes community ownership, utilizing a bespoke layered legal framework to ensure homes remain affordable in perpetuity and prevent financialization. The organization aims to create sustainable urban environments by integrating an urban re-greening agenda, which includes reducing the urban heat island effect, combating nature deprivation, and providing community amenities like rainwater harvesting and allotment spaces for food growing.

They propose a rapidly scalable model that can provide tens of thousands of genuinely affordable, community-owned homes in cities by utilizing marginal paved commons sites and off-site construction. Homefolk operates through a collaborative model with dedicated volunteers working in various groups, including architecture & design and legal strands. Their pilot project is planned for the East End of London, a historically significant area for new arrivals and currently experiencing gentrification, aiming to demonstrate the benefits of their model for respectfully densifying urban environments.

Construction is anticipated to begin approximately ten to twelve months after the tiny home builders' site is established, with a two-month in-situ setup for the village.
