Highland Eco Design was founded in 2007 by Jamie Wallace and Mick Bestwick, who shared a passion for micro-hydropower and a desire to increase its deployment in Scotland. 1 MW across 28 installations. They offer a full suite of services, including desk-top scoping studies, preliminary design, permissions applications, detailed design, procurement, construction tendering, construction management, and installation, commissioning, and testing.

The company aims to empower communities and landowners by providing cost-effective support for smaller schemes, utilising local trades and materials, encouraging local employment and training, and minimising environmental impact. They have extensive experience working with various hydro turbines and have developed tailored design methodologies to ensure permittable systems, maintaining strong relationships with authorities like SEPA. Highland Eco Design is a member of the British Hydropower Association and Scottish Renewables.
