We work with a strong client base of public authority, industrial, commercial, retail and development. Projects are managed from the Hull office but we use extensive site-based teams where appropriate. The site-based teams of groundworkers, bricklayers and joiners are trained to the highest standards and have skills and experience across a wide range of projects.
Houlton partnered with The Hull Esteem Consortium to deliver the project for Hull City Council as part of a city wide strategy to meet an increase in capacity requirements. A fully engaged and collaborative approach was needed.

Houlton undertook the design and build project after successfully bidding via open tender with design teams novated as part of the process. The project was to deliver a new £7.8m children's and adolescent mental health inpatient unit serving the young people of Hull, East Riding, and North / North East Lincolnshire. Constructed on a brownfield site, the design regenerates and incorporates a once derelict building, delivers BREEAM Very Good, and facilitates efficient staffing and FM delivery, meaning the finished facility is truly sustainable.

The amazing transformation on Hull Minster, which is England's largest parish church, originally built in 1285. The Minster was built using fine medieval brickwork and holds a 17th century organ. Hull Minster is a Grade I listed building with an abundance of history and fine tradesmanship behind it.

Phase 1 was awarded via the YORbuild 2 framework on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The project was to deliver a new facility which could accommodate a further 120 pupils. To meet this requirement, a seven classroom extension was built, which includes a hydrotherapy pool, a new hall, gym, sensory room, small group rooms and office spaces.

Tophill Low Nature Reserve near Driffield
Building & Maintenance project for Yorkshire Water. The feature building is the centrepiece at the Tophill Low Nature Reserve near Driffield. The new Hide combines classroom facilities overlooking the dipping pond, a public viewing gallery with large picture windows to view the reservoir, and a twenty-four hour twitcher's hide for dedicated bird watchers.

The firm's tender for Hymers College was accepted on 20th October 1890, with amounts of £4 and £3 separating it from the next two bids. The estimated cost was £11,500. The contract was signed on 20th December and the date for laying the foundation stone was fixed for 21st January 1891. The time for completion of the building was 15 calendar months. Despite this projected completion time, the college was not finished until July 1893, due to two very severe winters when 115 working days were lost, as well as ongoing strikes by the bricklayers and masons. Hymers College is still in use today and Houlton has contributed to many of the main campus buildings.
