Established in 1974, the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust has been dedicated to the rescue and restoration of historic buildings throughout Derbyshire. The Trust identifies neglected and abandoned historic buildings, working to bring them back into sustainable new use. They act as a catalyst, enabler, partner, advisor, or not-for-profit developer to achieve the restoration of 'buildings at risk'.
Historically, the Trust operated on a rolling fund model, using grants and low-interest loans for building repairs. They successfully employed a 'renovate and resell' model for numerous projects, including terraced cottages and historic houses. In recent years, the Trust has shifted towards an advisory capacity, identifying buildings at risk and investigating their reuse, while also developing a dedicated Academy for heritage skills and a Buildings at Risk survey project.
