Cwmni Egino

Cwmni Egino, meaning "to germinate" in Welsh, was established by Welsh Government in 2021 with the aim of fostering socio-economic growth from new nuclear development in North Wales. The company's primary focus was on assessing the potential for small-scale nuclear development at the Trawsfynydd site, advancing a detailed understanding of the site, and presenting a business proposition to the Welsh and UK Governments. It also worked to maintain Trawsfynydd as a viable option for future development, supporting private sector interest in small modular reactor technologies and producing a Site Information Pack.

Beyond the Trawsfynydd project, Cwmni Egino led a broader initiative to strengthen the case for nuclear-related investment in the region. This included developing proposals for an Innovation, Business and Skills Centre, supporting connections between the nuclear and other clean energy sectors, and contributing to regional initiatives like the North Wales AI Growth Zone. The company collaborated with stakeholders to enhance coordination, publish a nuclear investment prospectus, and evaluate the local supply chain's readiness for emerging nuclear opportunities.

Through its collaborative and place-based strategy, Cwmni Egino facilitated partnerships, knowledge sharing, and a collective ambition among industry, government, and communities. Its work was guided by the principles of social value, aligning with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act, to ensure that nuclear and other major projects deliver lasting social, economic, and environmental benefits for present and future generations. Although operations ceased on 31 March 2026, the company has established strong foundations for future development in North Wales's nuclear and clean energy landscape.
