Installation Of Fire Alarm
We carried out the installation of the new fire alarm system during the school summer holidays, allowing us to work efficiently while minimizing disruption to the school. As we progressed through the job, we systematically removed the existing equipment, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system. In addition to installing new wiring for the fire alarm system, we were also responsible for implementing a complete new containment system to securely house the cabling. Given that the building dates back to the pre-1900s, we had to think outside the box to navigate through decades' worth of equipment, all while adhering to current regulations. Despite the challenges in some areas, we successfully maintained both functionality and an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The wiring installation process was relatively straightforward, thanks to the carefully selected containment routes throughout the building. These routes made use of the building's loft spaces and voids to optimize the installation process. Enhanced FP200 cables were used, complying with fire-resistant standards, and metallic fixings were employed to adhere to the installation specification, ensuring a robust and safe electrical system. As per the job specification, we installed an Advanced fire panel alongside Apollo field devices, which included a range of equipment such as smoke detectors, heat detectors, visual and audio beacons, and visual/audio detector bases. Additionally, we installed fire alarm interface (FAI) units to facilitate connections with third-party systems. The varied functionality of this equipment was crucial to providing comprehensive alarm coverage, ensuring the system could address multiple emergency scenarios within the school premises. We also connected door access equipment via the FAI units, allowing for the automatic release of doors to provide unrestricted escape routes during emergency situations. A remote Fire Alarm Repeater Panel was also installed with the school's reception area to allow the staff situated there to have full vision and control over the emergency system.
