Office block extension integrated with existing cottages
Ashton, South Bristol
A contemporary two-story office block was added to an existing historic building on a small brownfield site. The new building wraps around one end and a complete side of the existing station master's cottages, using grey fibre cement cladding and an aluminium curtain wall glazing system. The new building has no load-bearing contact with the old structure, and sheet piled retaining walls were installed. State-of-the-art green technology was employed, including a wood chip biomass boiler, solar panels, and energy-saving devices.
