Project experience from company website

Torosay Castle and Gardens

Isle of Mull

Appointed as principal contractors for the external refurbishment of the Baronial Mansion designed by David Bryce. Works included stripping existing slates and lead weathering, stone restoration, conservation works, overhaul and draught proofing of sash and case windows, and structural stabilisation works to turrets and dormer pediments. A temporary roof structure was provided for protection and to allow work in most weather conditions.

Hermitage

Complete roof overhaul of a substantial Edwardian detached villa, retaining original materials and character. Existing slates were re-used, new matching slates imported, and lead work renewed. A new build out-house was added, and creative lead lining to dormer projections and Westmorland slate were used. Awarded NFRC Scottish Roofer of the Year 2012.

George Street

Comprehensive solution for roofs suffering from water ingress and previous repair attempts. Roofs were sealed with Elastaseal™ providing a twenty-year waterproofing guarantee. The liquid coating was applied to flat roof areas and encapsulated protrusions to provide a seamless waterproof membrane, with minimal disruption to occupants.

Cargilefield School, Edinburgh

Edinburgh

Project carried out over two phases on a 'live' private boarding school. Involved replacing existing clay tiles and lead flashings, renewing cast iron gutters, and incorporating unobtrusive ventilation and 25mm inverted insulation. Technical aspects included obtuse mitred hips with lead soakers, site manufacture of copper linings to 'eyebrow' dormers, cutting to barrel dormers, and manufacture of bespoke zinc ridge vents. Redesigned lead works to current guidelines.

East Calder Partnership, West Lothian

West Lothian

Project involved built-up felt roofing with a sedum blanket green roof system on varying slopes, and a separate flat roof area covered with a PVC membrane over PIR insulation. Bespoke aluminium capping's were applied to the perimeter wall heads. Products were supplied by Bauder UK.

The Inn at John O'Groats

John O'Groats

Renovation of the former John O'Groats House Hotel, including complete strip and re-slate of existing pitched roofs, renewal of rainwater goods, and re-rendering of walls. New profile metal roofing and rainwater goods were fitted to a newly built extension, and link corridors were waterproofed with a single ply membrane. Also waterproofed a new build café and luxury cabins.
