The company was founded in 1996 and is now run by a small team based in Buckinghamshire, with directors possessing over 140 years of property experience.

The focus is on sites with potential for high-quality residential development, ideally located within two hours travel time from their office. They seek out high-quality locations within historic cities, towns, and villages across the country, from Devon to the Lake District. Ash Mill is particularly interested in opportunities across the South-East of England, but will travel further afield for special opportunities.

Their ideal land requirements include sites for 10 to 40 homes, greenfield or brownfield sites, sites with listed structures, historic, contaminated or waterside sites, and sites suitable for 55+ downsizer homes. Alongside development, the directors also provide consultancy advice to a select number of clients.
