AQUIND Interconnector is a significant infrastructure project developing a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) electric power transmission link between the South of England and Normandy in France. With a net capacity of 2,000 MW, it aims to transmit over 17,000,000 MWh of electricity annually, contributing to energy security, the integration of renewable sources, and reducing CO2 emissions. The project is designed to provide long-term flexibility for electricity networks, enhance competition among energy producers, and deliver economic benefits through tax revenues and job creation.
The interconnector will utilise cutting-edge technology with no overhead lines, minimising visual impact. The cables will run underground from converter stations to the coastline and then underwater across the English Channel, buried below the seabed for protection.
